Overview

Experience the otherworldly beauty of the world’s largest salt flats on this private full-day tour of Salar de Uyuni. Marvel over the startling scenery of the Great Salt Lake and Tunupa volcano; walk beneath the gigantic cacti of Incahuasi Island, then take a peek into a salt processing plant and watch a salt extraction demonstration. Finally, witness the mesmerizing sunset over the stark white landscape.

DESCRIPTION

Day 1 – Tuesday/Friday: La Paz – Oruro + Train to Uyuni
Day 2. – Wednesday/Saturday: Uyuni Saltflats – San Juan
Day 3 – Thursday/Sunday: San Juan – REA – Villamar
Day 4 – Friday/Monday: Villamar – Alota – Uyuni – La Paz

Day 1 – Tuesday/Friday: La Paz – Oruro + Train to Uyuni

Trip from La Paz going southwest through the highlands in bus to Oruro (3 ½ hours), then train to Uyuni (6-7 hours), crossing a large portion of the highlands. Overnight in hotel.
Lunch included.

Day 2. – Wednesday/Saturday: Uyuni Saltflats – San Juan

Visit the train cemetery and after that road trip to the Great Salt Flats, on the way you’ll see the village of Colchani, where we are going to visit an artisanal salt processing plant, also you’ll watch the salt extraction methods. Continue the trip to Incahuasi Island (also known as Fish Island) where you will see the amazing giant cactus. Lunch. Visit the Coquesa Mommies and continue to San Juan. Overnight in hotel.

Day 3 – Thursday/Sunday: San Juan – REA – Villamar

LONG DAY! Early morning trip entering the REA (National Reserve Eduardo Abaroa), visiting Laguna Colorada (2 hours), declared a RAMSAR site due to the nesting of over 30,000 flamingos at 4,278 m. Then up to geysers “Sol de Mañana”, pass alongside Challviri lagoon, with its hot spring in the shores of Polques. Cross through the high desert of Pampas de Dali, with amazing views, to finally reach Laguna Verde (3 hours), in the foothills of the Licancabur Mountain. After that, all the way back north to Villamar. Overnight in hotel.
Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner included.

Day 4 – Friday/Monday: Villamar – Alota – Uyuni – La Paz

After breakfast visit the Cave Paintings and Fort of Tomás Lakjas. Continue to Uyuni, visiting on the way the Rocks Valley and going through Alota and San Cristobal villages. Lunch and transfer out to the airport for your flight to La Paz.
