Day 1: Calama / San Pedro De Atacama
• Full Day Altiplanic Lagoons, Atacama Salt Flat and Piedras Rojas, with breakfast and lunch
We will depart very early in the morning to head southeast. First, we will visit Laguna Chaxa, the central point of the Atacama Salt Flat, located within the Los Flamencos National Reserve. This lagoon is surrounded by salt and gypsum crusts formed by the evaporation of underground saline waters. Here, we will be able to observe the flamingos that inhabit the Salt Flat, along with other bird species.
We will continue towards the marvelous Altiplano Lagoons Miscanti and Miñiques, also within the Reserve. At an altitude of over 4,000 meters, these lagoons lie at the feet of two volcanoes of the same namesake. Their landscapes blend the colors of the water from their underground sources, the volcanoes, and the ice formed due to the low temperatures.
Finally, we will head to the Red Stones, a reddish landscape formed by iron oxidation, where you can also appreciate the Aguas Calientes Salt Flat, a green-colored lagoon, one of the most beautiful places in the region.
Having concluded this beautiful highland journey, we will return to San Pedro.
