Overview

An exciting Brazilian adventure starting with Rio, Sugar Loaf, and then on to an exploration of the flora and wildlife of the enormous Pantanal Wetlands, including horseback, waterfalls, and photo-safari.

Day 1: Arrive Rio de Janeiro

Once in Rio de Janeiro, transfer to your hotel. Night in Rio the Janeiro.

Day 2: Rio de Janeiro – visit to Sugar Loaf

At the appropriate time enjoy your half-day trip to Sugar Loaf Mountain. Over a million tourists every year visit the world famous Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf Mountain), which has become an iconic symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Rising up from a small peninsula at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined sugar loaf. The first cable car takes passengers to the top of Urca Hill, which rises 215 meters above sea level and offers spectacular views of the entire bay and its islands. From Urca Hill, passengers continue in a second cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf which rises 395 meters above sea level and offers a 360 degree view of the entire city including Botafogo and Copacabana Beaches, Corcovado and downtown Rio. Night in Rio.

Day 3: Rio de Janeiro – visit to Corcovado and Tijuca forest

Breakfast at your hotel, then a tour to Corcovado & Tijuca Forest. Following hotel pick up in an open-air, Hummer style jeep, we will make our way to Corcovado Mountain, located in the Tijuca Atlantic Forest – the largest urban forest in the world and home to the famed Christ the Redeemer statue which was recently elected as one of the 7 “New Wonders of the World”. Stop at the Dona Marta Observatory and Corcovado to admire the views. The tour continues up Paineiras road and stops at the Tijuca Forest, where guests will embark on a trail up to the Cascatinha Falls. Following Canoas Road, the tour passes by Pepino beach (‘Cucumber Beach’) and returns to the hotel. Night in Rio.

Day 4: Rio de Janeiro – Cuiaba -Savanna

Breakfast at your hotel. Time at leisure until you are picked up to take your flight to Cuiaba to start your adventure in PANTANAL / Chapada.
Once you Arrive at Cuiaba airport reception and transfer to the tablelands of Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park distance 60 km from Cuiabá by paved road. Accommodation will be at the Park Ecolodge. Check in and lunch at the “Teta da Loba” Restaurant. After a short rest we drive along the Chapada dos Guimarães cliff to the Geodesical Center of the South American Continent. With some luck we may see or at least hear the red & green macaws that nest on those sand walls. On the way back a stop at the History centre of Chapada dos Guimarães city with its charming Barroca architecture and first MT church. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.

Day 5: Savanna

Day devoted to wonderful hikes trough the National Park. The wind and rain sculpted intriguing shapes in the sand stones covered with rich “cerrado” vegetation, its bird songs and crystal clear water falls add to the enjoyment of the area. Visit the 86m high water fall “Veu de Noiva” where we’ll enjoy a traditional meal at the local restaurant, looking down to a huge canyon. Late afternoon we will take a light hike to enjoy sun setting behind the 850m high “São Geronimo” Peak in front of the Lodge. Dinner and night at the Lodge.

Day 6 – PANTANAL

Early sunrise walk to the trails around the Park, visiting some pre historic paintings, Stone House and other rock formations on our Stone´s Path. Back to the lodge for check-out and to start our drive to the lowlands of Pantanal. First 167km on paved road until the charming “gold miners” town of Pocone. “Pit-stop” for a snack, bathroom break, and picture taking of the Central Square, colonial buildings, and cathedral.
Then, onward to the ARARAS ECOLODGE for another 25km on the Transpantaneira, on the unpaved Park Road. Enjoy first meetings with the Pantanal’s plain, its flora and fauna. Welcome drink and check in at Lodge. Presentation tour of the Lodge and surroundings. Chat at sunset. 19h 30 Dinner at Lodge. Night walk to enjoy the south hemisphere night sky, sounds and freshness.

Day 7: PANTANAL

Full day dedicated to observing the Pantanal’s flora & fauna at the Araras Eco Lodge private reserve. After breakfast, the guide will lead you on a 2 to 3 hour horseback ride through the pastures, woods and wetlands. Lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, the guide will lead you on a hike in a different area of the private reserve, allowing you to observe and learn more of the local environment.

Day 8 – PANTANAL

After breakfast travel down private dirt roads, to Sentinela Camp on the edge of the Rio Clarinho. Canoe tour to spot aquatic wildlife, birds and flora; possibility of piranha fishing. Brazilian churrasco style picnic lunch along the banks of the river. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 9: Pantanal –Departure.

After breakfast, photo-safari along the Transpantaneira Road and return to Cuiabá. Drop off at airport to continue traveling within Brazil or take your connection back home.

Attention:
Water Falls Circuit: is opened to visit all days from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Veu da Noiva Falls: is opened to visit from Wednesday to Monday between 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. On Tuesdays it is closed.
Geodesical Center is opened to visit all days from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
