View the romantic city of Rio de Janeiro from a hilltop above Guanabara Bay and look down at the original Copacabana Beaches, take a jeep ride and hike through forests surrounded by waterfalls. Discover the historical Unesco baroque churches in Ouro Petro and enjoy the markets and cuisine of Salvador de Bahía.
After breakfast, start your tour: To understand a city the best place to begin is in its local markets. Salvador is surrounded by the bay and ocean, and Yemanjá, the goddess of the sea, protects its fishermen. Fittingly, our tour focused on Bahia cuisine should begin in the recently refurbished Agua dos Meninos fish market; the city’s main distribution center for all that comes from Yemanjá’s domain. From here it is a short hop to the Sao Joaquin market, a traditionally vital trading link for the abundance of produce from the farming hinterlands of the Reconcavo. Still the largest open air market in Brazil, it is a labyrinth of almost 800 stalls selling a myriad of goods; fruit, vegetables and spices, earthenware cooking utensils, wicker basketwork, medicinal and sacred herbs. We continue our tour with lunch at a local restaurant to try the main dishes of Bahian cuisine. Duration: approximately 5 hours. (Subject to flight schedule)
At the appropriate time pick up transfer to the airport to take your flight back home.
