Unique New Year in Lopez Mountain hut-Bariloche -Lake district-Argentina! FELIZ 2019 from Eureka Travel!

After a couple of very cold, windy, rainy days in Patagonia, we could finally enjoy the sun on January 1st, 2019. Instead of staying at home eating all day long, we prepared our small backpacks, our poles, sunscreen etc, and we took the road to Circuito Chico. On Arroyo López, starts the path (sendero?) to Refugio Cerro López, one of the first huts bilt on this area, now a full day hike, but years ago, it was very common to…

Bariloche’s historic landmark burns down.

Bariloche’s historic landmark burns down.

With great surprise and sadness we found out that on November 30th in the late afternoon hours the famous Refugio Berghof succumbed to a fire which destroyed the entire structure. The building which belonged to the Club Andino of Bariloche housed a concession restaurant and a mountain hostel. The voluntary fire brigade could not save this historic structure dating back to 1939. The refugio and two other, smaller structures were built by Otto Meiling, a local mountaineering figure of the early…
